THE BABY IS DUE IN APRIL
On her first joint engagement with Prince Harry on Monday, Meghan let it slip that her baby is due in April! Well, to be frank, she said “late April, early May”… but the May thing she seemed to add in there with a comment that first babies are usually late. Until now, we didn’t have an official month! In the announcement of her pregnancy, Kensington Palace released a statement that the newest royal addition would be coming in Spring 2019. For months, everyone has been speculating which month that would be… taking hints from stones she was wearing on her rings and comments she herself has made, and trying to guess what the date would be! We finally have a month narrowed down… the actual date is anyone’s guess!
Just a little royal birthday history for you… the Queen’s birthday AND Prince Louis’ birthday are both in April, on the 21st and 23rd respectively! Princess Charlotte was born on May 2nd – any guesses which date the baby will be born closest to?
WE WON’T KNOW THE SEX UNTIL THE BIRTH
Another thing Meghan revealed on Monday’s visit to Birkenhead? That she and Harry won’t be finding out the sex! While they’re certainly eager to find out whether the baby will be a boy or a girl, they are both wanting it to be a surprise. People on the interwebs are guessing it’s a girl, and in passing Harry mentioned he hopes it is a girl… but we’ll have to wait and see!!
THE BABY WILL LIVE AT FROGMORE COTTAGE
As was announced in November, Prince Harry and Meghan will soon be making the move out to Windsor! They currently reside at Nottingham Cottage, a 2-bedroom home on the Kensington Palace grounds. Ahead of their baby’s arrival, the pair have decided to renovate Frogmore Cottage and establish that as their home base. This cottage is on the grounds of Windsor Castle, and is just down the way from Frogmore House where they hosted their private evening wedding reception back in May. It is also rumored they spent a lot of time on the grounds prior to their engagement and weddings, strolling the beautiful landscape away from the public eye… so naturally this spot holds a special place in their hearts!
Frogmore Cottage is a two-story home, which the couple is reportedly planning to spend about $3.8 million to renovate! It is currently divided into five separate apartments where palace staff have lived, and the renovations will mostly be toward merging those apartments into a single family home. Upon that merging, they approximate a total of ten bedrooms! They will also be installing a yoga studio and a green energy unit for heating and hot water in the house, which all sounds very Meghan!
THE COUPLE WILL DO THEIR BEST TO RAISE THE BABY (MOSTLY) OUT OF THE PUBLIC EYE
While Meghan and Harry will continue their official royal engagements post-birth, it is rumored that the couple wants to raise their child as much out of the public eye as possible. As this child will have no official royal title (more on that below), the child won’t be required to participate in any kind of engagements on behalf of the royal family. Meghan and Harry are hoping their child can have a more normal childhood than their cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Prince Harry has always despised the paparazzi, so it’s not surprising he wouldn’t want his kids surrounded by them 24/7!
THE BABY WON’T BE A PRINCE OR PRINCESS (UNLESS ORDAINED BY QUEEN ELIZABETH)
Baby Sussex will be seventh in line to the thrown, but he or she won’t automatically be a prince or princess! According to a 1917 decree by King George V, only the oldest son of the Prince of Wales’s oldest son (Prince George in this case), is entitled to be a Prince.
With that said, Queen Elizabeth issued new Letters Patent in 2012 declaring that all of William and Kate’s kids would hold the title of HRH and be princes/princesses… so I’d be a little surprised if the Queen doesn’t bequeath the same onto Harry and Meghan’s little ones. But should she not, Prince Harry and Meghan’s child would be Earl of Dumbarton (if a boy) or a Lady.
