In celebration of Prince Charles’ 70th birthday last week, Kensington Palace released two special photos of the royal family! There was actually a bit of drama surrounding the release of these photos, as they were embargoed with the press. What that means is, the press had the photos but were not allowed to publish or release them in any way until the agreed upon time and date by the Palace… until one media outlet published the photos early causing an uproar amongst all the news outlets everywhere! The reason Kensington Palace does these embargoes is to allow the press time to craft a thoughtful presentation of the photos/story vs just throwing them up in a hurry. It also allows every media outlet the opportunity to share the story at the very same time, so nobody feels left out or behind on the news.
Anyway, the photos were embargoed and released too soon by one publisher (whether on accident or on purpose is TBD), but were then retracted and re-released a couple days later as originally planned. We all still got a good look at them before they were retracted though! The first photo is a more serious photo of Prince Charles and Camilla, along with Charles’ two sons, their wives, and Will & Kate’s kiddos. The second is a more relaxed photo, apparently a reaction to the Nanny making funny faces and sounds at the baby to keep his attention! Both photos are gorgeous, but I definitely prefer the more lighthearted version – so sweet.
The dress code for this royal family photo was blue and white, and Meghan opted for a custom Givenchy sheath dress, her navy Manolo Blahnik pumps and a Givenchy belt to tie the look together. Kate opted for a polka-dot Alessandra Rich midi dress with a contrasting white collar. Kate’s dress is sold out, but this Andrew GN style looks VERY similar. Both ladies look stunning!
I rounded up a ton of lookalike pieces for less for BOTH Duchesses below – click the arrows to scroll through the widgets and reveal more products!
SHOP MEGHAN’S LOOK
- As Meghan’s dress is custom + it’s white (and currently November), there aren’t a ton of lookalikes available at this time. I would bet we see more similar options come out for spring in the next couple of months though! If you don’t mind spending more, check out this style and this style.

SHOP KATE’S LOOK
- Duchess Kate’s look is surprisingly easier to recreate, thanks to the polka dot trend that’s taken over the fashion industry this year. If you don’t mind spending more, don’t miss this dress and this dress. Both look soooo similar to her exact dress!
