Stepping out solo for the first time since becoming a royal, Meghan Markle made an appearance at the Oceania Exhibition in London back on September 25th, 2018. Prince Harry was originally supposed to join his new wife at the exhibition, but he was unable to come – this was the Duchess of Sussex’s very first event without her husband or Queen Elizabeth by her side.
Markle chose a classic black Givenchy midi dress featuring a velvet applique and sheer sleeves, making it contemporary but still appropriate for the occasion. While her exact dress is sold out online, I’ve rounded up a bunch of similar options to recreate her look for less below. Ever since her royal wedding in May when Clare Waight-Keller of Givenchy designed her gown, Meghan has worn the label on a number of appearances and engagements.
To complete this polished look, she added black Aquazzura Deneuve Pumps, which just so happen to be back in stock in a bunch of colors here, here and here! These pumps are a favorite of the Duchess’s, and she also has a number of other styles by the Italian shoe designer. She topped off her ensemble with a black Givenchy satin clutch and a pair of sparkly diamond earrings by Birks, a Canadian jeweler Meghan is fond of.
