It’s officially been one year since Meghan Markle officially joined the royal family by marrying Prince Harry in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018. In celebration of this historic and magical day, I thought it would be fun to look back at some of my favorite photos from the Royal Wedding! What were your favorite moments?! Meghan and her mother Doria (in Oscar de la Renta) on their way to St. George’s Chapel the morning of the wedding! These were the first shots we saw of Meghan in her dress – so breathtaking.
Meghan walking into St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, with her two page boys spreading out her magnificent veil. Her dress was bespoke Givenchy, designed by Clare Waight Keller, the first female artistic director at the French fashion house AND a Brit! Her custom made veil was five meters long, made from silk tulle. The hand-embroidered flowers sewn into the veil represented the 53 nations of the Commonwealth – such a special touch!
Harry could not hide his excitement when he saw Meghan for the first time in her dress at the chapel – in fact, if you watched the Royal Wedding on TV, he mouthed “You look amazing” and “I’m so lucky”. Cue the tears!
The Queen gave her blessing for Prince Harry and Meghan to plan the wedding they wanted, which reflected both of their personalities and backgrounds. In addition to the Archbishop of Canterbury who officiated the ceremony, Most Reverend Michael Curry of the Episcopal Church in the US gave a powerful sermon, quoting Martin Luther King Jr. There was also a gospel choir (Karen Gibson and the Kingdom Choir) who performed a number of songs, including Stand By Me and Amen/This Little Heart of Mine. I was naturally watching from home, but you could totally feel the love through the screen – it looked like such a fun and beautiful wedding to attend.
One key moment of this wedding that differs from other Royal Weddings? Meghan walked down most of the aisle solo. Her father was absent (no need to get into that), and instead of finding a replacement she made a strong, feminist statement and walked down the aisle solo. Harry’s father, Prince Charles met her after she walked through the nave of the chapel, and escorted her the rest of the way. It is reported that Meghan and Prince Charles are quite close (and were before the Royal Wedding), so this was a really special moment for the the two of them and for Harry!
Before hopping into the carriage for a ride around Windsor, Prince Harry and Meghan stood outside St. George’s Chapel for the first time as a married couple! We got a great kiss shot too.
I absolutely loved these photos of them from the carriage ride around Windsor, especially the aerial photographs. There’s something so sweet and personal about these! You can almost feel the love of the newly married couple radiating through the photo – the closeness in the carriage, the clasping of hands… Obsessed!
And finally, the wedding portraits… OMG! Absolutely stunning. The photo of the entire family, with the Queen, Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Meghan’s mother Doria, and the kids is truly an incredible sight to behold. It’s a reminder of how important and monumental this day was for the royal family. It’s truly a beautiful photograph. I also love the one of Prince Harry, Meghan and the kiddos – it feels more relaxed and playful! The very last photograph is my favorite though. The newly named Duke and Duchess of Sussex look so incredibly happy! I love the body positioning of the two of them in this photo. Although clearly staged for professional photographs, it looks so natural for them – they are obviously so in love with each other! The last photo is of them on the steps of Frogmore House, where they had their evening wedding reception, and where they shot their engagement photos!
The last photos we saw of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on their wedding day were these taken as they headed to their evening reception at Frogmore House. Meghan wore a bespoke Stella McCartney halter neck gown with a pair of custom made white Aquazzura mesh pumps (that are now available to shop in nude and black!!!). She accessorized with a striking aquamarine cocktail ring that belonged to Harry’s mother, Princess Diana.
This final photo is one we didn’t actually get until Christmas this year! The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared this photo from their evening wedding reception as their holiday card. The picture of them facing the fireworks gives us just a taste of what a fabulous night this party probably was!
